We’re inviting Melbourne-based NDIS participants aged 18+ to take part in a monthly program packed with activities, learning and fun, as we explore countries from around the world together.
Everyone is welcome.
From February to December 2026, we’ll discover global cultures through local festivals, celebrations, food, history and hands-on experiences. Together, the world is ours to explore.
Join us for a single event, drop in whenever it suits you, or come along for the full year and enjoy a rich cultural journey with a friendly community.

Welcome to CHINA!
This month we will celebrate Lunar New Year with our Chinese community, explore Chinese cuisine, culture and art. Combining community- and centre-based activities, we’ll have lots of fun together on our first leg of this tour around the world!
Community-Based Activity
Lunar New Year – Chinatown Community Experience
Friday 20 February & Saturday 21 February – 9am to 3pm

Program Overview
Participants will travel into Melbourne’s Chinatown to experience Lunar New Year celebrations through food, culture and community exploration. The day focuses on social connection, public transport skills, cultural awareness, and independence in a supported environment.
Chinatown Exploration – Little Bourke St & Surrounds:
- Lantern photo walk
- Zodiac scavenger hunt
- Watching cultural performances
- Visit Asian grocery or gift shop
Group lunch at Chinatown food venue
- Practice ordering meals
- Handling money and budgeting
Leisure & Reflection Time
- Short walk at nearby CBD spaces (e.g., gardens, arcade walk)

Our venue is fully accessible, including accessible bathroom facilities with hoist and changing table. Our staff are experienced in supporting participants with high medical, physical and behavioural needs.
Welcome to AFGHANISTAN!
In March we will celebrate and recognise the large Afghan community in our region with celebrations, food and culture. The Afghan community is one of the fastest-growing communities in south-east Melbourne.
Community-Based Activity
Nowruz Festival – Dandenong Park
Sunday 29 March – 9am to 3pm
Also known as the Afghan/Persian New Year, Nowruz is one of the world’s oldest living cultural celebrations, observed for more than 3,000 years. This is Melbourne’s largest Afghan-Australian community celebration, featuring live music, cultural performances, entertainment, food, and family activities.

- Afghan-Inspired Geometric Pattern Art
- Afghan herbal Tea Experience
Participants will create:
Afghan-Inspired Geometric Pattern Art
Using rulers, stencils and traditional colour palettes (deep blue, red, turquoise, gold), participants will create repeating geometric patterns inspired by Afghan tile and carpet designs.
Participants will experience:
A non-caffeinated herbal tea option (served warm). This component encourages social interaction, sensory engagement and discussion around traditional hospitality customs.
Welcome to AUSTRALIA!
In April, we’re staying local. We’ll be celebrating some true-blue Aussie sporting legends, cooking up some delicious Aussie treats and heading out an about on ANZAC Day to learn about Australian history, wildlife and indigenous culture.

Australian Culture & Museums Day

Details
Travel as a group to Melbourne Museum to explore the incredible variety of exhibitions and interactive displays. After that, we’ll take a walk through Carlton Gardens to enjoy some fresh air and relax in the gardens together before heading to Queen Victoria Market for lunch and a browse through the stalls, including a shopping challenge, trying Australian treats and checking out some Australian souvenirs. We’ll travel back together on public transport.

Session Activity:
- Cooking experience: Participants will prepare and bake traditional Australian damper and iconic Australian ANZAC biscuits.
- Exploring Australia’s sporting legacy: Participants will learn about some of Australia’s most cherished sporting & Olympic champions throughout history, what they were famous for & the legacy they have left within Australian sporting culture. After this, let’s do some art & craft of your favourite AFL team!
Welcome to MEXICO!
May is all about Mexico! Mexican culture is rich with colours, sounds and flavours. Here’s your chance to enjoy Mexican food and entertainment with friends!

Details
Travel as a group to Melbourne CBD to watch street performers, hunt for street art and take part in a photo challenge. Enjoy all your favourite Mexican foods for lunch before playing some group games and enjoying a music and dance activity at the riverfront park.

- Cooking experience: Participants will prepare and enjoy nachos with all the trimmings. Make yours just how you like it!
- Mexican art and culture: Discover storytelling through Mariachi music and Mexican floral folk art and traditional patterns.
Welcome to the UK!
June is King’s Birthday month so we are jetting off to the UK. Think scones and tea, pub dinner and fish ‘n chips by the seaside. Let’s celebrate learn some of the history of the United Kingdom together.

Enjoy the King’s Birthday public holiday with fish and chips on the beach. Explore the area together and enjoy all the sights and sounds of seaside St Kilda.
UK Food and Culture Night
Friday 19 June – 3pm to 8pm
There’s nothing quite like a tradition English pub dinner. Where better to enjoy that experience in Melbourne than at The Elephant and Wheelbarrow!
