Giving recovered items a new purpose
A partnership between Refindit by Outlook in Mackay and Holy Spirit College is helping recovered items support hands-on learning and future career pathways for local students.
Craig Willmott, Outlook Australia Contract Manager, and Sheila Madsen, Supervisor at Refindit by Outlook Mackay, recently visited the college to see how donated items, including lawn mowers and motors, are being used in technical studies and metalwork classes.
During the visit, Craig and Sheila toured the learning spaces and saw the impressive range of tools and equipment available to students. They also viewed some of the students’ creations, from classic wooden pencil cases to large dog kennels and detailed metal fire pits. The visit highlighted the students’ imagination, practical skills and enthusiasm for creating something new.
Craig and Sheila also met James Leonardi, Dean of Technical Studies, whose passion for teaching and creating opportunities for young people made a lasting impression.
“Holy Spirit College is doing an amazing job of preparing Mackay’s future tradespeople,” Craig said. “The team welcomed us into their technical studies area and showed us the wonderful things students are achieving. We are proud that Outlook’s donations can support their learning and hope this is the beginning of a long-lasting partnership.”
By donating suitable recovered items, Refindit by Outlook helps extend their useful life while supporting practical education within the local community. The partnership reflects Outlook Australia’s commitment to creating positive environmental and social impact through reuse, learning and community connection.
