Led by Shaun Smiley, the team hit the ground running, welcoming our first crew, first delivery, and first customer—all in a single day! It was a fantastic start, made even better by the incredible effort and enthusiasm of everyone involved.

This milestone didn’t just happen overnight. It’s been a huge team effort across many months, with people from all corners of Outlook contributing to ensure a smooth and successful mobilisation. From tender submission to contract negotiations, recruitment to training, logistics to operations, this has been a testament to what can be achieved when we come together with a shared purpose. A massive thank you to everyone who played a role in making this happen!

One of the most exciting parts of this journey has been welcoming new team members to the Outlook family in Ballarat. As they settle into their roles, we’re looking forward to fostering a strong, inclusive team culture that reflects our commitment to social enterprise and community engagement. Seeing new faces join our vision and contribute to sustainable waste management is what truly makes days like this so rewarding.

We also want to acknowledge the City of Ballarat and their fantastic team, who have warmly welcomed us and shown great enthusiasm for this new partnership. Their collaboration and support have been instrumental in bringing this project to life, and we’re excited to work together to enhance waste services and drive sustainable solutions for the community.

Beyond the day-to-day operations, this new site also brings opportunities to grow and evolve. By strengthening our existing services and exploring exciting new innovations, we’re committed to making a lasting impact. Whether it’s enhancing resource recovery, finding new ways to repurpose materials, or increasing community involvement, the Gilles Street Transfer Station is set to be a hub for positive environmental and social change.
