Outlook Australia to Expand in Queensland with New Gympie Regional Council Partnership
Outlook Australia is set to expand its reach and impact in Queensland following the recent announcement that Gympie Regional Council has awarded the organisation the contract to operate the region’s transfer stations and recycled goods shops. This decision comes after a comprehensive tender process, where Outlook demonstrated its commitment to combining social impact with professional services in recycling, resource recovery, and community education.
“We are incredibly proud to have been awarded this tender by Gympie Regional Council,” said Daniel Findley, Chief Executive Officer of Outlook Australia. “Our team is eager to introduce innovative waste management practices that will not only boost diversion rates but also create meaningful employment opportunities for our priority workforce, aligning perfectly with our shared vision of sustainability and social impact.”
The Outlook Australia Strategic Plan 2024-2030 sets an ambitious goal of achieving a tenfold increase in impact over the next six years. Securing this contract is a major milestone for Outlook’s operations in Queensland and highlights our dedication to fostering skill development and creating career pathways for individuals living with disabilities or facing disadvantage within local communities.
Outlook Australia will begin operations at the Gympie Transfer Station in December 2024, with finalisation of contracts expected soon. In addition to managing the transfer station, our team will manage two recycled goods shops and seven satellite sites throughout the region.
These locations will enhance our ability to engage with the local community, raise awareness about recycling, and increase the diversion of unused items from landfills.
The expansion is expected to generate approximately 20 jobs for residents of Gympie and surrounding areas, with many of these positions anticipated to be filled by individuals from priority workforce groups, including those facing long-term unemployment, people with disabilities or mental health challenges, women over 50, and migrant or refugee workers. Outlook Australia takes pride in the fact that around 70% of employees in our social enterprise division are identified as priority workers.
At Outlook Social Enterprise, we are committed to creating employment opportunities through various operations in the resource recovery sector. We focus not only on educating communities about recycling and waste recovery but also on demonstrating the potential of inclusive commercial operations on a social level.
“As a not-for-profit organization, Outlook reinvests its profits back into the business to create more opportunities for local communities,” commented Callum Ross, Outlook Executive for Social Enterprise. “We are excited to build strong relationships within the Gympie community and deliver professional services that generate positive outcomes for the region.”
